It would seem plausible that an enemy that has experienced repeated defeat in achieving its purposes would relent and succumb to the authority and rule of the victor. Not so, for evil persists unrelenting in pursuit of its agenda. Satanic efforts to destroy the nation of Israel are well documented in Scripture. It would be through that nation that Messiah would come into the world to accomplish salvation for the nation as well as all mankind. It would be through Israel that God’s Word would be manifested and disseminated.
Even when the nation disobeyed God and was severely punished, there was still the promise of restoration. To Jeremiah, God said… “You shall also say to this people, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. He who dwells in this city will die by the sword and by famine and by pestilence; but he who goes out and falls away to the Chaldeans who are besieging you will live, and he will have his own life as booty” (Jer 21:8-9 NASB). In His faithfulness, God promised to preserve His chosen people for a future day in which Israel will recognize her Messiah.
History attests that all efforts to eradicate this nation and the Jewish people have failed. The Adversary still persists with his evil plan to thwart the Plan of God. When the persistent enemy and promoter of evil does not succeed with one of his tactics, he attempts to execute his evil purposes another way. The Apostle Paul had much to say in revealing satanic strategy to infiltrate and corrupt the minds of individuals. To the churches in Rome he wrote … “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the Truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them” (Rom 1:18-19 NASB).
Suppression of Truth is the foundational and most essential element in the demonic attack. This frontal attack seeks to negate the Truth of personal accountability to a righteous God. Though God places in the thinking of every individual His being and existence which is evident in creation, evil glosses over the ungodly and unrighteous acts of men lest they hear the gospel and respond in faith to the knowledge that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again, the Victor of sin and death. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith” (Rom 1:16-17 NASB).
Since the suppression of Truth leaves a void in the mentality of the soul, another prong of evil rises to the surface, that of motivating the individual to exchange the knowledge of God for anything that denies the manifestation of God. Simply put, Truth is exchanged for a lie. The thinking of the individual that could have received Truth now yields to the futility of mind concerning spiritual matters. A descending spiral into demonic thought and influence becomes evident … “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures” (Rom 1:21-23 NASB).
The tragic end to this descent becomes inevitable … “Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen” (Rom 1:24-25 NASB).
