Sometimes it is really easy for us to rejoice. Everything’s going right; kids are well, money is there, and the car is running, so you rejoice.

But there are times when it is not so easy to rejoice. Maybe there’s a string of events that seem to weigh you down and make you feel defeated. Maybe the car is not running. Or instead, you run out of money before you run out of month. It does not matter what is happening in our lives, circumstances can get us down if we let them.

David had found the secret to learning to rejoice. No matter what is happening our joy does not really depend on our circumstances. It depends on what is in our heart. Our joy will be determined in knowing Jesus. David wrote about it even though Israel had been through all kinds of turmoil and trouble, there was still reason to rejoice.

I will rejoice in Your salvation. Psalm 9:14

There is always cause and matter for rejoicing in Christ, even in times of affliction, distress, and persecution; since He is always the same; His grace is always sufficient; His blood continually offers grace and mercy, and always speaks for peace and pardon; His righteousness is an everlasting one, and so is His salvation, and such is His love. Get with it, we have every reason to rejoice, rejoice, rejoice!

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4
